Lucy Drewes maiden name Luzvisminda Balod was born on an army base in Japan. Lucy’s name Luzvisminda was named after four islands in the Philippines. Her father was a Philippine Scout and a survivor of the Bataan Death March. I believe Lucy had that inner strength that got her father through some tough times. Her mom past away when Lucy was sick and couldn’t be by her side and I know that was hard on her. Lucy grew up in El Paso, Texas and kept close contact with her girlfriends who came to see Lucy during her illness. Their visits were great therapy and a good distraction from the daily grind of doctor visits. I know her friends will always remember the time they spent together.

Lucy touched so many lives and had this ability to walk into a room and make it glow. It just felt good to be around her. Once you met Lucy you would never forget her. She always kept herself busy whether it was work, being with friends or family, exercising, shopping or just having fun, Lucy liked to keep moving. Lucy just loved life. As a business woman Lucy was very well respected and had many friends and associates all around the country.

I met Lucy in Phoenix where we were married and have a beautiful little girl named Kristan. One song she liked to sing was In My Daughters Eyes which is a special song for us. I feel that I am the luckiest person in the world to have had Lucy in my life. Lucy had a saying, don’t sweat the small stuff and that is how she lived. Lucy never let the things she couldn’t control affect her daily life, but also met challenges head on. One thing Lucy said to me when she was sick was I don’t mind having cancer but why did I get a rare type of cancer. If you knew Lucy you would totally understand her question. This is one reason why the Lucy Rare Cancer Foundation was established so others like Lucy can have hope, available treatments and a cure for rare cancer.
